The association for students' accomodation Lucerne (Stuwo) was founded back in 2005 by the the University of Lucerne, the University of Applied Sciences and the Educational College of Central Switzerland. The City of Lucerne subsequently decided to participate with an initial funding (limited until 2009). The Spirit and purpose of the association is to offer inexpensive accomodation to the students of the three academies and to create a platform for rent offers aimed particularly at students.

The Student Mentor Foundation Lucerne fulfills an important function: it offers reasonably priced living space for students at universities, colleges and other educational institutions.
